On December 21, 2021 Campinas (SP, Brazil) became one of the first cities in the Americas and the Caribbean to be recognized as a "Resilience Hub" of the Making Cities Resilient 2030 (MCR2030) initiative. After this announcement, on January 12, 2022, Mayor Dario Saadi received the certificate, on behalf of the city, from the captain of the hands of Military Police, Felipe Zaupa, in representation of Colonel PM Romanek, chief secretary of the Military House and state coordinator of Protection and Civil Defense.

The Youth Forum for Disaster Risk Reduction - The Americas and the Caribbean was an opportunity for some of the region’s 106 million young people to share priorities, concerns and make proposals over four hours of presentations, plenary sessions and panels. The VII Regional Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction in the Americas and the Caribbean was held under the theme “Building resilient economies in the Americas and the Caribbean”.
Towards Gender Equality and Women’s Leadership for Resilience to Disaster Risks in Latin America and the Caribbean
Factors such as gender, age, life in an urban or rural context, belonging to a native or Afrodescendant people, access to education or social protection mechanisms significantly influence people’s knowledge and ability to prepare and respond.
Key Recommendations for a Strengthened Science and Technology
This publication presents findings regarding the effect and significant role of scientific and technological research on strengthening the implementation and formulation of sound disaster risk reduction policies.

This contribution to the GAR Special Report on Drought 2021 is a case study on the 2017-18 drought in the Argentine Pampas. It focusses on its impacts on agriculture. The drought had large impacts on production and yields of summer crops.

The purpose of this study was to review selected National Adaptation Plans to better understand how disaster risk management is approached in climate change documents, and if systemic risk issues where impacts cascade across sectors are considered.
This contribution to the GAR Special Report on Drought 2021 focusses on flash drought in the United States and the Northern Plains. Drought early warning and information systems must be flexible and receptive toward the integration of new indicators.
