Implementing the Sendai Framework

Implementing the Sendai Framework
As the first major agreement of the post-2015 development agenda, it provides Member States with concrete actions to protect development gains from the risk of disaster.

The Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030 (Sendai Framework) is the roadmap for how we make our communities safer and more resilient.

The Sendai Framework works hand in hand with the other 2030 Agenda agreements, including The Paris Agreement on Climate Change, The Addis Ababa Action Agenda on Financing for Development, the New Urban Agenda, and ultimately the Sustainable Development Goals.

Coordinating the implementation of the Sendai Framework

As the lead agency within the United Nations system for the coordination of disaster risk reduction, we use our authoritative expertise and presence in five regional offices to build and nurture relationships with national and local governments, intergovernmental organisations, civil society and the private sector.

UNDRR has been tasked to support the implementation, follow-up and review of the Sendai Framework and coordinates action within the UN system around disaster risk reduction to make this happen.

UNDRR and the Sendai Framework

The United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) has a big ambition: to help decision makers across the globe better understand and act on risk. At UNDRR, we envision a world where disasters no longer threaten the well-being of people and the future of the planet. Sustainable development and the 2030 Agenda cannot be achieved without working towards that goal of building resilience.

UNDRR has been tasked to support the implementation, follow-up and review of the Sendai Framework and coordinates action within the UN system around disaster risk reduction to make this happen.
