This summer, a group of them started learning how those decisions work. UNDRR partnered with the Ashley Lashley Foundation as part of the Safe Coast Bim Youth Disaster & Emergency Preparedness Programme 2026.

Languages, the channels used, territorial references, community structures and Indigenous Peoples' own decision-making systems are all fundamental elements. So is recognizing the knowledge that communities already use.

Discussions focused on how the private sector contributes across the full early warning value chain—from risk information and data to communication, operations, and response, and what is required to move from participation to collaboration.

Preparedness should not be understood as an expense, but as the investment that allows life, production and essential services to carry on when the climate turns adverse.

The outcomes will contribute to the development of Grenada's national MHEWS Gap Analysis and Implementation Roadmap, providing a strategic framework to guide future investments and coordinated action towards Early Warnings for All initiative.

More than sixty national experts and international partners convened in Paramaribo on 5 and 6 May 2026, bringing all relevant actors together for the first time within the Early Warnings for All (EW4All) framework.

Working alongside national institutions, local authorities, and a wide range of stakeholders, the process focuses on assessing capacities, identifying gaps, and supporting the development of local governance plans for DRR and resilience.

As global challenges grow in complexity and uncertainty, a coordinated, multilevel approach to international cooperation is essential to support cities and municipalities in addressing systemic risks that cross geographic and sectoral boundaries.

The project includes technical assistance from UNDRR to support the development of methodologies and tools, strengthen institutional arrangements and public policies for resilient recovery, and expand capacities at regional, state and municipal levels.

Key national institutions came together to discuss how to strengthen the way disaster losses and damages are documented, tracked and shared across the country.
