Governments and stakeholders across Europe and Central Asia are organizing a wide variety of events and activities to raise awareness on this year’s International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction theme of “fighting inequality for a resilient future”

Persons with disabilities face a shocking lack of support to cope with disasters, with no progress in the last decade, despite a huge increase in climate disasters worldwide. The lack of progress could be a violation of international law.

Representatives from 139 countries and territories have been trained on how to implement disaster resilience strategies that are more inclusive of the perspectives and capacities of persons with disabilities.

Barcarena completed three addenda to the Disaster Resilience Scorecard for Cities, with technical support from UNDRR, including the addendum for public health, the inclusion of people with disabilities and the resilience of food systems.

UNDRR held an inspiring event titled "Fighting Inequality for a Resilient Future" during MENA Climate Week 2023 hosted by the Government of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in Riyadh from 8-12 October 2023.
