The Africa Early Warnings Forum, held in Addis Ababa, highlighted Africa's progress in expanding early warning systems, but with climate and disaster risks accelerating, the task now is to translate that progress into protection for everyone.

Journalists, editors, disaster management authorities and regional partners gathered in N'Djamena from 27–29 July for a regional workshop aimed at strengthening climate reporting and media resilience across one of Africa's most vulnerable regions.

The Gender and Disability-Inclusive DRR Capacity-Building on Tropical Cyclones and Flash Floods brought together SEN educators, Local Disaster Management Coordinators (LDMCs) from across Mauritius and Organisations of Persons with Disabilities (OPDs).

The National Treasury has launched Kenya’s Disaster Risk Financing (DRF) Strategy 2026–2030, marking a decisive step forward in strengthening the country’s ability to protect lives, livelihoods, and development gains from the impacts of disasters.

To address Burundi's challenge of insufficient disaster data on gender, and disability in relation to vulnerability and exposure, UNDRR gave support to improve SFM reporting, and to enhance the use of inclusive risk knowledge in early warning systems.

The United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR), in collaboration with the Municipality of Quelimane, organised an event to integrate technical DRR needs into municipal planning for Quelimane, a major seaport city in Mozambique’.

When early warnings are unclear or mistrusted, communities may ignore them — sometimes with life-threatening consequences. To address this challenge, UNDRR organised a Regional Risk Communication Workshop from 9 to 11 March 2026 in Mauritius.

In March 2026, São Tomé and Príncipe endorsed its EW4All roadmap to establish inclusive early warning systems. The roadmap benefited from the high-level political support and government ownership, paving the way to effectiveness and sustainability.

Seychelles hosted a regional peer learning workshop from 18 to 20 January 2026 on building methodological foundations for national disaster tracking systems powered by DELTA-Resilience. Participants from Seychelles, Mauritius and Madagascar attended.

In February 2026, UNDRR convened Ugandan stakeholders at both the local and national levels to strengthen disaster resilience and climate change adaptation through the Making Cities Resilient 2030 (MCR2030) initiative.
