Background

In November 2022, the world will come together for the next round of climate negotiations at COP27 in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt with a view to building on previous successes and paving the way for future ambition to effectively tackle the global challenge of climate change.

On the margins of and during the conference, UNDRR will be part of several side events, which will focus on call to member states to support the aim of #ZeroClimateDisasters by 2030.

We need a two-track approach to reach #ZeroClimateDisasters: slow down climate change by reducing emissions while at the same time accelerate ambition and action on climate change adaptation to reduce the risk of climate-related disasters. We require integrated policies, programming, and financing to transform our systems for a high adaptive capacity, strengthened resilience and reduced vulnerability. We have the tools at our disposal but need greater political will and stronger collective ambition to meet the scale of the emergency.
