This monthly newsletter highlights UNISDR activities around the world. This issue reports on: (i) the Global Platform 2013 plenary session on the private sector for resilient societies; (ii) the adoption of the United Nations Plan of Action on Disaster Risk Reduction for Resilience; (iii) the adoption of the Arab Declaration on Disaster Risk Reduction in Cities at the First Arab Regional Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction; (iv) the city of Hoboken in New Jersey, birthplace of the legendary crooner Frank Sinatra, joining UNISDR’s “Making Cities Resilient” Campaign; (v) the recognition of Barcelona as role model city; (vi) a media training in Myanmar five years after Cyclone Nargis; (vii) Central Asia meeting on the post-2015 framework for disaster risk reduction (HFA2); (viii) the recognition of Aqaba as role model city; (ix) the city of Petra joining UNISDR’s “Making Cities Resilient” Campaign; (x) the city of Jordan and the completion of its first report on implementation of the Hyogo Framework for Action; (xi) the meeting between UNISDR Chief and children from Fukushima affected area in Japan; (xii) the establishment of a national disaster loss database in Italy; and (xiii) the identification of HFA2 priorities by oevr 1,000 cities and towns.
