With the support of the European Union, the Government of Turkmenistan and the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) convened a high-level meeting with the members of the newly established Interagency Working Group for Disaster Risk Reduction.

The FORIN Methodology two-day workshop held on January 19 and 20 in Kingston, Jamaica, convened 28 participants from local and national governmental agencies. The workshop concluded with two formulated case studies agreed upon by all participating stakeholders. These case studies will be developed in the following years and presented at the next Regional Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction in the Americas and the Caribbean.

UNDRR advocates for full inclusion of persons with disabilities and their leaders in developing and implementing national and local disaster risk reduction strategies. The Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction - our guiding document adopted by Member States in 2015 - repeatedly mentions their involvement. While much has been achieved, much more still needs to be done.

As many of you know, the work of UNDRR is guided by this global blueprint for risk reduction and resilience adopted unanimously by all Member States in 2015. With the changing face of risk as the back drop, the Mid-term Review of the Sendai Framework is underway, and the timing could not be better. Not only the COVID-19 pandemic but also the climate emergency is making clear that shocks from disasters cannot be substantially reduced unless the dynamic and systemic nature of risk is better understood.

MCR2030's Local governments and collaborators are invited to share good practices and lessons learned on local governments' engagement and Collaboration with their local communities for disaster risk reduction, climate adaptation, and urban resilience.

Young students from the island nation of Tuvalu are now able to go to school without the constant fear that the next tropical cyclone would destroy their classrooms – all thanks to a partnership between their government and Australia.

Nominations for the United Nations Sasakawa Award for Disaster Risk Reduction, under the theme “Building resilience through a multi-hazard approach" are open.

Under the patronage of the Minister of Water and Environment in Yemen, the UNDRR Regional Office for the Arab States and in coordination with the Ministry of Water and Environment organized a National workshop on Sendai Framework Monitor and Disaster Loss Accounting System from 30 January to 2 February 2022.
