Activities

The UNDDR Regional Office for Europe engages in the following tasks and activities to support international efforts for disaster risk reduction (DRR) and Sendai Framework implementation.

Europe - 5USCORE2: City-to-city local peer review

The Uscore2 project aims to design and test a generic, practical, city-to-city, disaster risk reduction peer review tool for cities across EU member states and beyond via the UNDDR Making Cities Resilient campaign (MCR). The project will involve collaborative work between the municipalities of Salford, Amadora and Viggiano. the University of Manchester, UNIDDR, the Department of Communities and Local Government (UK), Portuguese National Authority for Civil Protection and the Associazione di Protezione Civile Gruppo Lucano.

This will be done through the realization of an integrated European Interoperable Database (EID) for CH, designed to provide a unique framework for CP, national Ministries of CH, the European Union (EU), local authorities. Moreover, RESCULT will provide a disaster risk reduction strategy identifying tailored actions and investments to improve both prevention and resilience capacities.

Europe - 7South Eastern Europe Disaster Risk Management Program

The World Bank and UNDDR have initiated SEEDRMAP (South Eastern Europe Disaster Risk Mitigation and Adaptation Programme) in collaboration with regional and international partners. This initiative contributes to regional and country-specific investment priorities (projects) in the area of early warning, disaster risk reduction and financing. SEEDRMAP incorporates three focus areas: (i) hydro-meteorological forecasting, data sharing and early warning;(ii) coordination of disaster mitigation, preparedness, and response; and (iii) financing of disaster losses, reconstruction and recovery, and disaster risk transfer (disaster insurance).
