Global methodology for infrastructure resilience reviews: Guidance for the water sector
This guidance for the water sector, developed by the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) and the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure (CDRI), provides a comprehensive guide to conducting a detailed assessment of the water sector including wastewater. This approach complements the multi-sector review outlined in the Global Methodology for Infrastructure Resilience Reviews.
The guidance concludes that building the resilience of the water and wastewater sectors requires a comprehensive understanding of:
- A country’s water sources (such as rivers, groundwater or desalination) and their vulnerabilities to a range of natural or humaninduced hazards that can result in lack of water availability or degradation of water quality
- The type and location of water assets (including water storage, distribution networks and water or wastewater treatment facilities) and their exposure to hazards both directly and via supply chains, interdependencies and cascading risks.
