The CSSI is the Caribbean’s contribution to the Worldwide-Initiative on Safe Schools (WISS) and promotes the partnership for advancing safe school implementation.

Local administrations of 9 Central Asian cities have been introduced today to the Making Cities Resilient 2030 (MCR2030) global initiative, which helps to access and prevent disasters and create safe and sustainable conditions for city residents.

The Third Caribbean Safe School Initiative Ministerial Forum, which will be taking place in Sint Maarten from 28 to 30 June 2022, has recognized youth as a key partner in advancing resilience and reducing risk.

CEMR/PLATFORMA together with United Cities and Local Government, UCLG and Making Cities Resilient 2030 (MCR2030) initiative organized two training sessions for politicians dedicated to climate adaptation and mitigation.

More than 30 million people were displaced as a result of disasters in 2020 alone, and this number is likely to rise with the mounting severity and number of climate-related extreme events.

Over the past two years, the COVID-19 pandemic has transformed the world, and its consequences have been particularly severe for the most vulnerable and disadvantaged populations.

Disasters unfold across national boundaries, involving a range of interrelated hazards and complex dynamics. To tackle disaster risks and build resilience, it will require a united effort to move beyond working in silos.

Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction was a ‘wake-up call’ to improve preventative measures and ‘stop the spiral of increasing disaster impact and risk’. More countries must “Think Resilience”, and urgently adopt and improve early warning systems.

Day-to-day life depends on infrastructure and its services, this includes supply-chains, electricity, water and sanitation, and information networks. In the face of COVID-19 and increasing extreme weather events, these systems are under increasing threat.
