From May 22nd to 24th, the 10th Meeting of the Network of Portuguese Resilient Cities and Towns, integrated into the National Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR), took place in Évora, Alentejo region of Portugal.

Experts and government officials met to conduct an in-depth analysis of the water sector to identify opportunities for mitigating disaster risks in the sector.

UNDRR is pleased to welcome Kamal Kishore, who starts his term as the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General (SRSG) for Disaster Risk Reduction and Head of the UN Office for Disaster Risk Reduction.

Amidst the escalating toll of disasters, the Humanitarian Network and Partnerships Weeks recently convened a session titled "Applied Disaster Forensics: Learn from the past to build a resilient future."

CAF, UNDRR, Green Climate Fund, and other institutional partners are structuring a regional facility that will support LAC countries to formulate national and regional projects on “Climate Information and Early Warning Systems (CIEWS)” .

The MOU supports the commitments made in the Regional Action Plan for the Implementation of the Sendai Framework in Latin America and the Caribbean. It could also serve as a platform to further the UN Secretary-General´s Early Warnings for All Initiative.

Stakeholders from agencies with responsibilities for water sector infrastructure in Tonga came together to develop actions towards increased resiliency in the sector with the support of international experts.

From difficult accessibility to the permanent hazard of insecurity, every day represents a struggle for survival in this small neighborhood. But in the face of adversity, the community does not give up.

Representatives from various sectors discussed the implementation of an action plan based on the recommendations of the application of the Global Methodology for Infrastructure Resilience, developed by UNDRR and CDRI.

Effective Multi-Hazard Early Warning Systems (MHEWS) in the Caribbean region can only be made possible through the strong leadership of strengthened NMHSs, with the alignment of NDRMOs, who integrate co-design and delivery approaches in their services.
