Building a safer society through science and technology: a compendium of Korea’s science and technology-based disaster management
Recognizing the value of Korea’s experience and its relevance to other countries, this compendium was developed to share the Korean model across the Asia-Pacific region and the global disaster risk reduction community, so that other countries can draw practical lessons from Korea. Korea has been at the forefront of the digital transformation of disaster management, building on its strong achievements in e-government and digital government. Science and technology are now applied throughout the entire disaster management cycle, yielding measurable outcomes in risk reduction and loss mitigation.
The compendium documents 24 of Korea’s policy cases and technological advancements across four thematic areas as presented by the practitioners responsible for major programmes and initiatives, along with Korea's success factors and remaining challenges. It offers a practical reference, field-level applicability and operational insight for countries considering science and technology-based disaster risk reduction systems. The compendium is available in English and Korean.
