Accelerating and mainstreaming disaster risk reduction efforts: update on the United Nations’ intensified approach
This report presents the progress made in the implementation of the UN Chief Executives Board for Coordination (CEB) Plan of Action on Disaster Risk Reduction for Resilience, a UN strategy document adopted in 2013 for integrating disaster risk reduction into UN country level operations.
The current report looks at the impact of UN work, at UN leadership on disaster risk reduction in countries and the integration of disaster risk in UN country programmes, at how disaster risk information is driving UN development, at UN regional cooperation in disaster risk reduction, at how DRR is changing UN cultures and approaches, and how UN organizations are increasing their accountability by adopting a single set of indicators to measure progress as they accelerate and mainstream disaster risk reduction. The report finds evidence that many UN organizations have already been focusing on scaling-up and mainstreaming disaster risk reduction efforts and in some cases, bringing about important changes.
