17th Africa Working Group on Disaster Risk Reduction
The main objective of the meeting was to review progress made since the last session (October 2021) and agree on the way forward to accelerate the implementation of the Programme of Action (PoA) for the implementation of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction in Africa. The session also provided the Group the opportunity to contribute inputs that informed and shaped the Africa Common Position presented at the Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction that was held in Bali, Indonesia in May 2022.
The Group had briefings on regional climate outlooks and efforts to improve weather and climate information services in Africa; COP27; COVID-19 Disaster Recovery Framework for Africa; Midterm Review of the Sendai Framework; Past and planned meetings; 8th Africa Regional Platform and Seventh High-Level Meeting for DRR, Global Platform for DRR; Africa Common Position to the Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction; local resilience initiatives; the Africa Roadmap for the Development of a Continental MHEWAS; and development partners’ programmes/initiatives. Regional economic communities also reported on success stories and best practices.
