UNDRR with the IFRC, and the National Red Crescent Society of Turkmenistan, organized monitoring missions to the Mary and Balkan regions to assess progress of their community-based disaster risk reduction activities

UNDRR and the Main Department for Civil Defence and Rescue Operations of the Ministry of Defence, with the financial support of the European Union, organized a workshop on the Disaster Risk Management (DRM) Capacity Assessment and Development process.

Nur-Sultan in collaboration with the UNDRR, and with the financial support of the European Union, convened a two-day workshop to conduct a Detailed Disaster Resilience Scorecard Assessment to support the development of the city’s resilience strategy.

After ramping up climate change adaptation measures, increasing capacity building and engaging local communities, the Canton joined the Making Cities Resilient 2030 (MCR2030) initiative in March 2021.

On 23 February 2022, UNDRR, with the financial support of the European Union, and in collaboration with the Ministry of Defence of Turkmenistan, convened an expert-level meeting with members of the National Platform for DRR at the UN House.

With the support of the European Union, the Government of Turkmenistan and the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) convened a high-level meeting with the members of the newly established Interagency Working Group for Disaster Risk Reduction.

While COVID-19 keeps challenging all five countries of Central Asia at an unprecedented scale, through existing programs, the EU supports both resilient and sustainable political and economic frameworks that can prepare governments for future emergencies.

On 30 November 2021, the city of Nur-Sultan in cooperation with the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR), the European Union (EU) and the World Health Organization (WHO) in Kazakhstan, conducted an assessment of the resilience of the public health sector of the city to disasters. This assessment is one in the series of assessments of overall resilience to disasters, aiming at developing recommendations for the local strategy on disaster risk reduction.

Israel is joining the MCR2030 initiative following increased collaboration with UNDRR on preparedness, reducing risk, and building resilience. As a supporting entity, Israel has demonstrated a commitment to strengthen efforts on local resilience to help cities in the country be better prepared and join a vast network of cities worldwide, where the Israeli experience and knowledge can be shared.

Governments across Europe and Central Asia have backed a roadmap towards preventing future disasters including new pandemics in the face of growing threats from climate change and disease outbreaks.
