The regional workshop on coastal resilience: from early warning to anticipatory action in the Mediterranean will take place on 5–6 November 2026 in Lebanon, bringing together government representatives, scientific and academic institutions, United Nations entities, civil society, and technical partners to strengthen coastal resilience and regional cooperation.

Organized by UNDRR’s Regional Office for Arab States, together with the Government of Lebanon, the National Council for Scientific Research – Lebanon (CNRS-L), and the Arab Science and Technology Advisory Group, the two-day initiative will address growing coastal risks, including sea-level rise, coastal flooding, tsunamis, and cascading hazards.

The first day will focus on national engagement in Lebanon, connecting science, institutions, and youth through technical presentations, demonstrations of coastal monitoring and early warning technologies, and an interactive student challenge.

The second day will bring together Mediterranean Arab member states and regional partners to exchange experiences, explore approaches to monitoring and communicating coastal risks, and strengthen the links between multi-hazard early warning, preparedness, and anticipatory action.

The workshop aims to identify practical solutions, promote knowledge exchange, and advance regional cooperation to translate coastal risk information into timely action, contributing to the implementation of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015–2030.
