Duties and responsibilities:
Prepare guidelines for updating the FAO regional strategy for disaster risk management in Latin American and the Caribbean and its alignment with the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction and the UN Action Plan on Disaster Risk Reduction for Resilience.
Activities:
- Review bibliographic information about strategies for disaster risk management.
- Consult with national experts in countries.
- Meet with relevant officers and staff of UN agencies and other organizations.
- Prepare a guidelines proposal for discussion with international expert.
- Support the preparation of the First Meeting of Ministers and High-Level Authorities on the Implementation of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030 in the Americas, and in particular of the side event during the meeting specifically on disaster risk reduction in the agricultural sector and for food and nutrition security (FSN).
- Coordinate the execution and participate on both meetings.
- Discuss as much as possible the guidelines proposal with participants.
- Adjust the proposal and discuss with officers and staff of UN agencies.
- Present the final version of guidelines.
Qualifications/special skills:
Academic qualifications:
- Advanced University degree in disaster risk reduction, international development studies,social or natural sciences, sustainable agriculture and/or food security, political sciences, humanities or related field.
- A first level university degree with a combination of relevant academic qualifications and experience may be accepted.
Experience:
- At least 5 years of experience in the area of disaster risk management.
- Knowledge in agricultural sector development and food security in Latin America and the Caribbean.
Language:
- Fluency in Spanish and English (speaking and writing skills).
- Working knowledge of French and/or Portuguese is a plus.
