CCRO Network turns roundtable discussions into action with new El Niño advisory
Geneva, Switzerland – A key objective of the UNDRR-convened Corporate Chief Resilience Officers (CCRO) Network is to transform dialogue into practical action. A recent example is the publication of the advisory note,“El Niño Is Strengthening. Is Your Business Ready?”, developed by CCRO Network members and contributors to help business leaders prepare for the growing risks associated with the strengthening El Niño event. The advisory note brings together expertise from resilience leaders across industries and provides concrete guidance for executives, boards, multinational corporations, and small businesses.
The publication emerged from discussions among CCRO Network members on how companies can better anticipate and manage foreseeable systemic shocks. The advisory translates risk information into practical business questions and actions, encouraging organizations to assess exposure across people, operations, supply chains, and financial performance. The note also highlights the role of governance, operational preparedness, and financial resilience in responding to climate-related disruptions.
The advisory was led by the CCRO Network. It reflects the Network’s collaborative approach to sharing knowledge and developing practical resilience tools that can benefit organizations well beyond its membership. The publication also showcases how the Network leverages the UNDRR Resilience Maturity Assessment (ReMA) tool to help organizations understand and strengthen resilience across six key pillars.
As a follow-up effort to broaden the reach of the publication, Cédrick Moriggi, a member of the CCRO Network, authored the blog “Why I asked ten resilience leaders to write about El Niño together”, published on PreventionWeb. In the article, he explains the rationale behind bringing together resilience experts from different sectors to produce a single, practical message for decision-makers facing a highly foreseeable risk. The blog further highlights the value of collective expertise and the importance of acting before disruptions intensify.
“Predictable shocks reward preparation and punish improvisation. This one is unusually foreseeable,” notes the advisory, emphasizing the need for leaders to act early rather than wait for uncertainty to disappear.
The advisory demonstrates how the CCRO Network is moving beyond discussion to generate tangible outputs that support resilience-building across the private sector. By translating expert dialogue into practical guidance, the Network continues to advance the objectives of the Sendai Framework while helping businesses better understand and prepare for emerging risks.
The advisory note is available on PreventionWeb: It includes practical recommendations for boards, business leaders, multinational organizations, and SMEs on how to prepare for the potential impacts of El Niño on operations, supply chains, and financial performance.
