Analytical estimate of damages caused by the June 24, 2026 earthquakes in Venezuela

This document constitutes a first estimate of the direct physical damage, obtained through analytical modeling, of the effects caused by the earthquakes of June 24, 2026 in Venezuela. Its main purpose is to establish in a timely manner, an order of magnitude, technically supported, of the impact on buildings and infrastructure, however, it does not seek to provide a definitive quantification of the damages. 

The results indicate that damage to buildings (residential, commercial, educational, health, institutional and industrial) is estimated at around 3% of the total exposed stock (equivalent to $24,000 million US dollars), while damage to infrastructure (water and sanitation, telecommunications, roads, railways, energy, ports, airports, oil and gas) is estimated at around 4% of the total exposed stock (equivalent to $13,000 million US dollars). These values, totaling US$37,000 million US dollars, correspond exclusively to direct physical damage to buildings and infrastructure and do not include indirect economic losses, interruptions of productive activities and services, emergency response costs, effects on supply chains, social, environmental or macroeconomic impacts, or the costs associated with comprehensive recovery, structural retrofitting and reconstruction. For this reason, the total economic impact of the disaster is expected to be greater than the value of the direct damage estimated herein.
