About
Despite growing recognition of the need to shift from reactive disaster response to proactive risk reduction, financing for disaster risk reduction (DRR) remains insufficient, fragmented, and often disconnected from public financial management and development planning processes.
At the same time, countries are increasingly seeking practical support to develop national DRR financing strategies, strengthen pre-arranged and anticipatory financing, and better connect financial instruments with policy and institutional frameworks.
Building on ongoing collaboration between UNCDF, UNU-EHS and UNDRR, this set of sessions will provide a space to present emerging tools (including the Climate Insurance and Resilience Programme (CIRP) and related approaches), exchange with country representatives, and gather feedback to inform further technical support and joint guidance.
Objectives
This event aims to:
- To support countries in strengthening DRR financing approaches, including national strategies, pre-arranged and anticipatory financing, and linkages with public financial management systems.
- To present and discuss practical tools and solutions (including CIRP and the G20 Compendium on Risk Transfer instruments), and assess their relevance and applicability to country needs.
- To gather feedback from country representatives (including V20) to inform ongoing technical support and the development of joint guidance on DRR financing.

This technical workshop is organized as a complementary event to the 2nd Bonn Risk Finance Dialogue | Advancing CDRFI: Scaling Up, Scaling Out, and Scaling Deep (17–18 June 2026).
