UNISDR work programme 2014-2015: update, November 2014

Source
United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction
Publication Year
2014
Number of pages
8 p.

This document provides a summary of UNISDR's work in 2014, with a focus on facilitating the development and adoption of a post-2015 framework for disaster risk reduction; preparing for the Third World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction (WCDRR) in March 2015; and ensuring the recognition and integration of disaster risk reduction into public and private decision-making and investment across all sectors.

It highlights updates in the following areas: (i) fostering international cooperation to reduce disaster risk; (ii) strengthening complementarity and coherence among relevant international agendas; (iii) climate resilience; (iv) the implementation of the United Nations Plan of Action on Disaster Risk Reduction for Resilience; (v) advocacy and the work with parliamentarians; (vi) urban risk reduction and resilience through the “Making Cities Resilient Campaign”; (vii) risk informed public policy; (viii) risk sensitive business investments; (ix) the launch of a new 1-in-100 Initiative on integrating risks into the financial system; (x) the improvement of organizational performance; and (xi) a 2014 financial update.

It also introduces the basis of UNISDR work in 2015, which will focus on supporting the finalization and implementation of the post-2015 framework for disaster risk reduction. The 2014-2015 Biennium Work Programme, published in December 2013, provides detailed information about the programmatic plans, results and indicators, including means of verification. It is complemented by the programme resource requirements for 2015 and the expected outputs of the Third UN World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction (WCDRR).
