Thanks to anticipatory action and investment in early warning efforts by the Government of Mozambique with support of the United Nations, the number of deaths and people displaced by Cyclone Freddy is lower than in past comparable cyclones.
Mission
The United Nations has been present in Mozambique through 22 specialized agencies, funds and programs that support the Government and Civil Society in making the country a better place for everyone since 1975, the year in which Mozambique became independent.
They have been working for more than 40 years in favor of health, work, economic growth, education, culture and the protection of all, including children, refugees, migrants, displaced persons and the environment. Combating AIDS, malnutrition, crime and corruption, among others, the United Nations works in all provinces from Rovuma to Maputo.
The organization has no registered commitments.
The Sendai Framework Voluntary Commitments (SFVC) online platform allows stakeholders to inform the public about their work on DRR. The SFVC online platform is a useful toolto know who is doing what and where for the implementation of the Sendai Framework, which could foster potential collaboration among stakeholders. All stakeholders (private sector, civil society organizations, academia, media, local governments, etc.) working on DRR can submit their commitments and report on their progress and deliverables.
