UNDRR, in partnership with GIZ, organized a disaster risk reduction workshop for the city of Bukavu. Some 40 participants from a wide range of institutions came together over 4 days to learn about the Making Cities Resilient 2030 initiative.

This visit underscores the importance of international cooperation and knowledge sharing in disaster preparedness and response, promoting a collaborative approach to protect and save lives in the region.

We must continue to strengthen multi-hazard early warning systems in the Caribbean, through efforts such as the recently announced Climate Risk Early Warning Systems (CREWS) Caribbean 2.0 project.

To strengthen local preparedness and support cities in reducing risk and building resilience, UNDRR Regional Office for Europe and Central Asia expanded its cooperation in 2024 with three municipalities from the Republic of North Macedonia.

UNDP and UNDRR recently conducted a mapping exercise of early warning system stakeholders across Central Asia to help support a transformational shift in how systems are perceived and integrated into broader resilience-building efforts.

During the session, crucial issues such as the dissemination and reaction of the population to the warnings were addressed. The need for coordination between governmental entities and the integration of advanced technologies was highlighted.

An exhibition at UN headquarters, organized by the Philippine Mission to the UN in New York, UN OCHA & UNDRR, raises the profile of the International Law Commission’s Draft Articles on the Protection of Persons in the Event of Disasters.

The coordinated efforts in Barbados, Grenada, and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) serve as testament to the progress made and the areas that still require attention.
