As Resilience Hubs, Cali, Montevideo, Pudahuel, and Santa Ana play a crucial role in the MCR2030 network, sharing knowledge and good practices with other cities.

CAF, UNDRR, Green Climate Fund, and other institutional partners are structuring a regional facility that will support LAC countries to formulate national and regional projects on “Climate Information and Early Warning Systems (CIEWS)” .

The MOU supports the commitments made in the Regional Action Plan for the Implementation of the Sendai Framework in Latin America and the Caribbean. It could also serve as a platform to further the UN Secretary-General´s Early Warnings for All Initiative.

From difficult accessibility to the permanent hazard of insecurity, every day represents a struggle for survival in this small neighborhood. But in the face of adversity, the community does not give up.

Representatives from various sectors discussed the implementation of an action plan based on the recommendations of the application of the Global Methodology for Infrastructure Resilience, developed by UNDRR and CDRI.

Effective Multi-Hazard Early Warning Systems (MHEWS) in the Caribbean region can only be made possible through the strong leadership of strengthened NMHSs, with the alignment of NDRMOs, who integrate co-design and delivery approaches in their services.

Despite evidence showcasing the effectiveness of investment in DRR for safeguarding development gains, funding for this area remains insufficient.

Challenges persist in reaching remote and marginalized communities. Technical infrastructure and communication networks must be strengthened to ensure timely, accurate, accessible and effective dissemination of early warnings.

The recognition of the Caribbean region for pioneering the methodology for conducting MHEWS Gap Analysis and Implementation plans is a testament to the impactful contributions facilitated by the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA).

Crucial aspects were discussed in order to strengthen early warning systems and disaster preparedness, including the need to link risk knowledge information with modeling and forecasting.
