For three years, the Maria Naura Gouvêa Municipal School has been living out one of COP30’s central themes: adaptation. During our visit, Kamal Kishore, head of the UN Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR), called the school “a guiding light".

Seven women from Asia and the Pacific, who have achieved exceptional professional success in disaster risk reduction, have been chosen as finalists for the 2025 Women’s International Network for Disaster Risk Reduction (WIN DRR) Excellence Award.

UNESCO, the African Union of Broadcasting (AUB), and UNDRR joined forces to support media organizations in four African SIDS - Cabo Verde, Comoros, Mauritius, and São Tomé and Príncipe.

In Tajikistan, from 12-14 November 2025, an important training workshop on using risk knowledge for multi-hazard early warning systems took place within the framework of the project “Strengthening resilience to disasters and climate change in Tajikistan.”

More than 60 representatives from government, UN agencies, donors, and the media unite to advance risk awareness and preparedness.

The resilience bond is a debt instrument that mobilizes resources from capital markets for projects that strengthen the resilience of critical infrastructure, protecting essential services and people’s well-being.

The agreement between UNDRR and the ISC extends the collaboration between the two organizations through 2035, reinforcing a shared commitment to harness science for a safer and more resilient world.

Workshop in Syria advances national roadmap for disaster risk reduction

In October 2025, two milestones in Accra demonstrated how local evidence can shape national resilience governance, and how national coordination can, empower cities to act.

Countries with Multi-Hazard Early Warning Systems has reached a record high of 119. Moreover, the comprehensiveness of these systems has improved. Yet, gaps remain underscoring the need for investment to achieve Early Warnings for All.
