The European Forum for Disaster Risk Reduction (EFDRR) serves as forum for exchange at the regional level. The triennial EFDRR is the foremost multi-stakeholder mechanism in the region bringing together governments, the UN, Private Sector and practitioners from 55 countries to address disaster risk reduction issues in a coordinated manner at the regional level.

At the 2018 EFDRR in Italy, participants re-emphasized their commitment to greater accountability and improved governance in strengthening disaster resilience and the implementation of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction.

In order to support the EFDRR Secretariat (UNDRR, European Commission and Council of Europe) with national expertise in driving the EFDRR process in line with regional needs and priorities, the Working Group on the European Forum for DRR (EFDRR WG) was formed in May 2020, consisting of 25 Member States from across the region. Through the contributions of committed National Sendai Focal Point, the EFDRR WG will drive the EFDRR process, define the 2021-2030 EFDRR Roadmap to be adopted at the 2021 EFDRR meeting, and contribute and advise on the development of the 2021 EFDRR concept, agenda and sessions.

Portugal will host 2021 European Forum for Disaster Risk Reduction that will take place 2-5 November 2021 in Matosinhos, Portugal.
