Pudahuel (Chile) is first city to apply tool for inclusion of persons with disabilities developed by UNDRR and NGOs
On April 17, 2023, the municipality of Pudahuel, Chile, was the first city worldwide to implement the Scorecard’s Addendum for the Inclusion of Persons with Disabilities, developed by the NGO Inclusiva and the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR).
The application of the tool was conducted through a workshop facilitated by UNDRR under the Making Cities Resilient 2030 (MCR2030) initiative. The event featured an introductory speech by the Mayor of Pudahuel, Mr. Italo Bravo, who reiterated the city's commitment to leave no one behind in local risk management and that everyone benefited when obstacles to persons with disabilities were being removed.
The Scorecard’s Addendum for the Inclusion of Persons with Disabilities incorporates persons with disabilities as an integral part of the development of local resilience strategies. It responds to the call of UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres who, with the adoption of the UN Disability Inclusion Strategy in June 2019, noted that the inclusion of persons with disabilities is central to the achievement of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
By adopting a disability-sensitive inclusion perspective for disaster resilience action planning, Pudahuel takes a step forward in fulfilling UNDRR's 10 Essentials for Making Cities Resilient, which were designed to support the implementation of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction at the local level.
