In the Arab region, the UNDRR Regional Office for the Arab states contributed to the MCR 2030 launch through several activities and public engagements including an on-ground activity that was organized for 5 days from October 28 to November 2, 2020, in the Festival City Mall in Dubai. This activation welcomed more than 1500 visitors to introduce to the MCR 2030 key messages and essentials. The activation visitors who come from different counties around the world recorded messages expressing their understanding of the MCR 2030 essentials and their wishes for their home cities and countries to be resilient. The public recorded messages were publicized through the UNDRR ROAS social media channels in addition to the public influencers who recorded their awareness messages and reached more than half a million viewers.

The UNDRR Regional Office for the Arab States is working closely with the local governments to ensure that Arab Cities will have the ability to withstand and recover from the multiple risks and shocks faced and transform into sustainable, smart, and resilient cities. Through consistency and commitment towards mainstreaming inclusive disaster risk reduction in local development, strengthening risk governance, and enhancing community resilience the region will showcase more success stories in the field of DRR and resilience. UNDRR-ROAS is committed to supporting cities in the region to implement the Sendai Framework, through knowledge, guidance, capacity building, and facilitating peer-to-peer learning.

The  22 countries of the Arab region are members of the League of Arab States and being one of the most urbanized regions in the world, cities are at risk of natural, man-made, and climatic hazards that increase social, economic, and environmental vulnerabilities. Accordingly, the effective implementation of disaster risk reduction strategies on the national and local levels is crucial to strengthen the resilience of the Arab region.
