Global consultation of the draft Global disaster-related statistics framework
You are kindly invited to review and submit comments to the draft G-DRSF via the [ONLINE SURVEY FORM] by Tuesday, 7 October 2025.
On behalf of the co-chairs of the Inter-Agency and Expert Group on Disaster-related Statistics (IAEG-DRS), we are pleased to announce the global consultation on the draft Global Disaster-Related Statistics Framework (G-DRSF).
The development of the G-DRSF has been coordinated by the IAEG-DRS, co-chaired by UNDRR, United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), and the United Kingdom Health Security Agency (UKHSA), in response to Statistical Commission Decision 50/116 to advance a common statistical framework on disaster-related statistics.
The draft G-DRSF is the result of a global collaborative effort, consolidating over four years of work with experts from official statistics, disaster risk reduction, geospatial information and other national and international stakeholders. It aims to establish an internationally harmonized framework for compiling disaster-related statistics related to disaster risk, impacts, and risk reduction activities. Designed to support countries in enhancing data quality, strengthening disaster risk governance, and enabling informed, evidence-based policymaking for greater resilience, the draft G-DRSF aims to facilitate the production of robust, comparable statistics in support of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
This global consultation seeks feedback from national statistical offices, national disaster risk management offices, line ministries and agencies, non-governmental organizations, academia, regional and international organizations, and other relevant entities involved in the production, compilation, and use of disaster-related statistics.
The draft G-DRSF consists of six chapters:
Chapter 1 - Introduction
Chapter 2 - The Conceptual Framework: Scope, Concepts and Definitions
Chapter 3 - Implementation Ecosystem for Disaster-related Statistics
Chapter 4 - Non-event Specific Statistics: Exposure, Vulnerability and Coping Capacity
Chapter 5 - Event Specific Statistics: Occurrences and Impacts
Chapter 6 - DRR Expenditure Accounting
Given the cross-cutting nature of disaster-related statistics, we strongly encourage Member States to consult broadly and coordinate responses with relevant national experts and agencies before submitting to the consultation.
To support the global consultation, the IAEG-DRS is organizing a series of events to promote the G-DRSF and to raise its awareness among official statistics, disaster management, and other key communities. The first technical webinar of the series was held on 16 September 2025. The second of the series, at the Fifth Global Expert Forum for Producers and Users of Disaster-related Statistics, will be held on 6-8 October 2025 online, to provide in-depth, background information of the G-DRSF, and to help respondents to better understand the Framework and to submit their responses.
If you have any questions regarding access to the draft chapters or the online survey form, please contact UNDRR Bonn and UNESCAP
We thank you in advance for your attention to this important matter and look forward to your valuable contributions to the global consultation process for the G-DRSF.
