Ciudades chilenas fortalecen capacidades para la resiliencia climática con apoyo de UNDRR y ICLEI

The project: "Local Urban Planning for Climate Change Adaptation in Chile" (PULAC) supports the elaboration of local climate action plans in 3 Chilean municipalities located in the metropolitan area of Santiago: Renca, Independencia and Vitacura.

With the enactment of Law 21.455/2022 in Chile, it is established that Chilean municipalities must develop Communal Climate Change Action Plans consistent with the general guidelines established in the national regulatory framework and the regional climate change action plans. The PULAC project contributes directly to compliance with the Law, in synergy with the Sendai Framework, the New Urban Agenda, the Paris Agreement, and the 2030 Agenda.

The first capacity-building workshop of the project was held on 16 August 2023, during which Clément Da Cruz, Junior Programme Officer for MCR2030, presented the climate resilience tools developed this year by UNDRR in partnership with the Development Bank of Latin America – CAF:

  • The Climate and Disaster Risk Integrated Analysis Tool.
  • The Climate Resilience Addendum to the Disaster Resilience Scorecard for Cities.

The workshop also included the participation of María Elena Opazo Cortes, Director of Risk Management of the Municipality of Pudahuel (Chile), who shared her government's experience and lessons learned in the use of UNDRR tools.

The project is implemented by ICLEI Argentina in collaboration with UNDRR and its MCR2030 initiative and together with the UC Global Change Centre of the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, with funding from The Adaptation Research Alliance through UK AID of the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO).
