Call for Good Practices of Local Governments Engagement with Local Communities in DRR

Making Cities Resilient 2030 (MCR2030) and the UN Office for Disaster Risk Reduction, Regional Office for the Americas and the Caribbean (UNDRR-ROAMC) invite MCR2030 Local governments and participating entities to share good practices and lessons learned on local governments engagement and Collaboration with their local communities for disaster risk reduction, climate adaptation, and urban resilience.

Selected good practices will be showcased in the ‘Handbook for Local Governments on Community Engagement in DRR’, which will be published by MCR2030, contributing to disaster risk reduction in the Americas and the Caribbean region.

The Handbook will provide practical advice on community engagement, contributing to the planning and implementation of the UNDRR Ten Essentials’ essential 7; 'Understand and strengthen social capacity for resilience'.

This Call aims at collecting experiences, lessons learned and key aspects of existing projects and engagement practices with local communities to inform the design of new or strengthening of existing strategies at a local level. More specifically, the Call will allow compiling different experiences that highlight key components and challenges in engaging with local communities in the region as well as innovative approaches, inclusive practices, and impactful actions.

Who can engage?

• MCR2030’s local, subnational or national governments as well as participating entities in the Americas and the Caribbean Region.
• Good Practices of engagement or collaboration with local communities within the municipal territory of the government for disaster risk reduction, climate adaptation, and urban resilience.
• The practices could be a specific project or an implementation of a strategy. They could focus on one of three lines of action; Information (awareness and knowledge), Capacity (preparedness and response), or Action (projects implementation)

How to engage?

• Fill out the online form. While only online submissions will be accepted, the form is available in its offline format (possible for download in the attached files) to facilitate the preparation of the online submission.
• Application forms in Spanish and Portuguese.
• Deadline for submissions is 13 March 2022.

Consultation Process

• Selection of the Good Practices for the ‘Handbook for Local Governments on Community Engagement in DRR’ will be conducted by the MCR2030 ROAMC team.
• Practices will be evaluated according to:
  • Their relevancy to the main objective of the call; practices of local governments engagement and Collaboration with their local communities for disaster risk reduction, climate adaptation, and urban resilience.
  • Innovation, inclusive or cultural heritage-related practices, or lessons regarding them.
  • Impact potential and results.
• While only a selected number of experiences can be considered for inclusion into the Handbook, submissions may be used in the context of MCR2030 ’s advocacy campaign around Sendai Framework and the UNDRR Ten Essentials’ essential 7 throughout the year 2022.
• By submitting your good practice, you agree that the information can be used in the context of the Handbook and for advocacy campaigns.
• MCR2030 may reach out to request further information regarding selected good practices.
