Webinar series on emerging technologies for DRR. Webinar 1: From potential to practice - Understanding the technology adoption gap

About
Around the world, new technologies-artificial intelligence, geospatial analytics, remote sensing, cloud computing, and digital communication tools-are transforming the way societies understand and manage risk. Yet despite their availability, many disaster management institutions continue to face challenges in adopting, scaling, and sustaining these solutions.
Barriers include limited institutional capacity, skills gaps, insufficient financing, fragmented data systems, and a lack of coordination between technology developers and the DRR community. Too often, innovation is driven by supply rather than demand: tools are created without sufficient engagement from those working on the front lines of disaster management.
UNDRR's Emerging Technologies for DRR initiative seeks to bridge this gap by fostering collaboration between governments, technology providers, and partners from academia and civil society. The goal is to enable countries to move from experimentation to operational use-helping national and local institutions identify what works, build readiness to absorb innovation, and scale solutions that are context-appropriate and sustainable.
This first webinar in the series, "From Potential to Practice," will explore practical examples from governments and technology providers in Asia and Europe, examining the conditions that enable successful technology adoption and the lessons learned from implementation. A second will be organized focusing on experiences from the Americas. It will also serve as the launch point for UNDRR's global survey on technology adoption for DRR, gathering insights from stakeholders to shape future capacity development and partnership efforts.
