Webinar: Reducing COVID-19 Vulnerability Amongst Displaced Populations and Migrants

Organizer(s) United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction - Regional Office for Asia and Pacific
Cover of webinar 3 brief
Date

Whether refugees living in overcrowded camps or jobless migrant workers forced to return home, the lives of millions of people in Asia-Pacific are threatened by the dangerous combination of displacement and the COVID-19 pandemic. Congested settlements, inadequate access to healthcare, lack of information, stigma and discrimination are just some of the issues that need to be urgently addressed to help ensure those displaced by conflict, or newly displaced because of COVID-19, receive adequate prevention, care and treatment.

On Thursday, 9 April 2020, UNDRR Asia-Pacific hosted a webinar to identify emerging lessons generated from experiences in combating COVID-19 in refugee camps in Cox’s Bazaar, Bangladesh, and amongst internally displaced communities in Afghanistan. It also explored how COVID-19 is impacting migrant workers in Asia-Pacific, featuring India as a case study.

This webinar was the second in a series of upcoming webinars on COVID-19 organized by UNDRR’s Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific. As the first region to be impacted by COVID-19, Asia-Pacific has become the testing ground for innovations and solutions to tackle this global disaster.
We aim to use these webinars to distil in 60 minutes the most relevant information and actionable recommendations on priority topics to support countries in their prevention, response and recovery efforts. We will also share issue briefs on the webinar topics that capture emerging lessons and policy recommendations.
