UNDRR invites you to its second episode of the WebTalk on Investing in Disaster Risk Reduction.

This episode will showcase how governments have been integrating disaster risks into their budgetary processes and the benefits they are deriving from it. It will also feature a new report from UNDRR - the Resilience Expenditure Landscape Report, which provides analysis and lessons learned based on a dataset of 54 countries (mostly from Africa).

This WebTalk will feature the following experts:

  • Mathieu Verougstraete, UNDRR Head of Infrastructure and Finance for Resilience Unit - Introducing practical approaches and benefits of tracking public investment in DRR.
  • Shanaz Broermann, Resilience Finance Expert - Presenting key findings from the Resilience Expenditure Landscape Report

This 30-minute conversation is an excellent opportunity for government officials and practitioners to deepen their understanding of investing in DRR and the approach put forward by UNDRR to support countries in this area. No prior financial knowledge is required.

Understanding how integrated disaster risk is into budgetary processes is part of mapping the existing DRR financial landscape as part of UNDRR's comprehensive approach to DRR Finance:

  1. Estimating the direct and indirect costs of disasters
  2. Mapping the existing DRR financing landscape
  3. Identifying potential DRR investments
  4. Selecting suitable financial mechanisms
  5. Integrating the results into an implementation plan
