Resilient Cities Series: Sustainable Cities in the Americas and the Caribbean

COVID-19: Challenges and opportunities

Context:

Our cities are complex systems of systems resulting from economic, political, social and environmental interactions. Their recovery process, after the pandemic, must incorporate options focused on environmental, economic and social sustainability. The prospect of achieving low-carbon cities and economies that are resilient to the effects of climate change, that rethink mass transport systems and prioritize the protection of strategic ecosystems, must guide the recovery phase and govern the formulation of sustainable solutions for the new normality. The sustainable future of the region is invariably linked to the sustainability of our cities.

Panelists:

  • Karen Porras, Executive Secretary of UCLG-FLACMA, Costa Rica
  • Edgar Villaseñor Franco, Regional Secretary for ICLEI Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean
  • Nasry Asfura, Mayor of Tegucigalpa, Honduras
