Strengthening risk governance is essential to reduce losses, protect lives, and advance resilient development across the Americas and the Caribbean. Learning from recent emergencies and translating those lessons into stronger policies, regulatory frameworks, and institutions is critical to shift from disaster response to disaster risk prevention.
In this context, UNDRR is convening a Regional Dialogue that will bring together high-level representatives from The Bahamas, Costa Rica, and Canada, alongside the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), to exchange experiences and lessons learned from events such as Hurricane Dorian, the COVID-19 pandemic, wildfires, and the Mocoa flash flood.
The exchange will focus on how regulatory frameworks, institutional strategies, and governance mechanisms can enable preventive, integrated, and evidence-based disaster risk management, in line with Priority 2 of the Sendai Framework
