About

Join us for the First Early Warnings for All (EW4ALL) National Workshop in Belize from May 5-7, 2025, aimed at enhancing Multi-Hazard Early Warning Systems (MHEWS) to safeguard lives and livelihoods. This event, co-organized by the National Emergency Management Organization (NEMO), the UN Resident Coordinator's Office, UNDRR, WMO, ITU, and IFRC, will address critical gaps in Belize's early warning infrastructure.

The consultation will foster collaboration and drive national ownership of the Early Warnings for All (EW4ALL) Action Plan, ensuring inclusive, responsive, and equitable MHEWS. By engaging stakeholders from various sectors, including community, national, private sector, regional, international, and developmental agencies, the aim is to build a safer and more resilient Belize, equipped to face future challenges.

As part of the EW4ALL workshop an official Making Cities Resilient 2030 - Belize City Signing Ceremony will take place immediately after, which will signal the launch of the MCR2030 initiative for Belize City and of the UN Joint SDG Fund Programme: Belize Inclusive Resilience in Safe and SMART Spaces.

📌 What to expect?

A three-day stakeholders' consultation exercise will be held May 5th - 7th 2025 in Belize City with the objectives to:

  • Review the current status of multi-hazard early warning systems in Belize and assess progress and existing gaps for efficiently implementing the four pillars and the governance components of MHEWS.
  • Examine the linkages and alignment among ongoing and upcoming projects and consolidate key stakeholder commitments to strengthen multi-hazard early warning systems.
  • Establish a national coordination mechanism or reaffirm the existing one to guide efforts in scaling up early warning programming across all four pillars, ensuring effective linkages between national and local levels.
  • Identify key challenges and barriers to delivering effective, accessible, and coherent multi-hazard early warnings, and propose targeted actions to address these issues in line with national development priorities.
  • Provide initial inputs for a multi-year, multi-stakeholder, focused, and actionable EW4All National Roadmap, serving as a platform for resource mobilization, technical assistance, and long-term support.
