Capacity Building Workshop on Financing Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR)
- English
Objective
The workshop will strengthen the capacity of government officials and other experts to develop national financing frameworks that foster investments in DRR. It will also increase their understanding of how to identify investment gaps and mobilize financing for DRR in an anticipatory way from different sources (i.e., public, private, and international).
Audience
The workshop is designed for technical advisors and government officials from the Ministry of Finance/Ministry of Planning/Prime Minister's Office, given their central coordinating role in terms of finance. It is also directed to ministries and agencies dealing with areas critical to disaster risk reduction, such as national disaster management authorities.
Approach
To achieve its objective, the workshop builds on UNDRR’s financing approach for DRR that has been collaboratively developed with experts and government partners.
The 5-step approach supports countries in assessing and developing financing solutions for DRR that are suited to their local context and that take into consideration public, private and international financing sources and mechanisms.
During the 4-day training, participants will learn more about this approach and how to conduct specific components, such as tracking DRR financing flows through budget tagging and tracking systems and how to turn DRR assessments into action.
