The Africa Early Warnings Forum, held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, from 2-4 September 2026, with 44 countries from Africa represented, brought together close to 500 experts and officials from governments, regional institutions, the private sector, scientific institutions, civil society, humanitarian actors and international partners to address these challenges and identify practical priorities for accelerating implementation.
The Forum was the first and largest in a series of consultations under the EW4All initiative, marking the beginning of a regional-to-global process to carry African priorities, experiences and recommendations into the wider global conversation on early warning systems beyond 2027.
A central outcome of the Forum was the Addis Ababa Call to Action on Early Warnings in Africa, which identifies five priorities: carrying forward EW4All as a global political priority; bridging remaining gaps and reaching the last mile; making multi-hazard early warning systems a core public investment; enabling early action based on warnings; and making universal protection a shared and measurable responsibility.
This webinar will provide an opportunity to share the key outcomes and messages of the Forum with a wider audience, including stakeholders who were unable to attend in Addis Ababa. It will also provide a platform to discuss how the Call to Action can be translated into action and how African priorities can continue to inform the regional-to-global EW4All process.
