About

The UN Office for Disaster Risk Reduction, the UN Environment Programme, MEP Javi López, MEP Lídia Pereira, MEP Kira Peter-Hansen and MEP Dragoş Pîslaru, are co-hosting an exchange on “Accelerating Action to Reduce Climate-Related Disasters – The Road to COP27”.

Following the release of the recent IPCC Working Group II Report, it is clear that we are not on the right track to address the climate emergency with the level of urgency needed. The report finds that around 3.3 - 3.6 billion people, or around 40% of the world's population, are highly vulnerable to the impacts of climate change. We need to prepare for a world warmer than 1.5° - a world characterized by an exponential increase in magnitude, intensity and frequency of extreme events fuelled by climate change.

How can we prepare for a more climate-extreme world, while building a resilient society leaving no-one behind? Join the discussion on “Accelerating Action to Reduce Climate-Related Disasters – The Road to COP27”, an exchange with between policy-makers and resilience experts ahead of the 27th Session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).
