Invest today for a safer tomorrow

The first edition of the biennial Global Assessment Report on Disaster Risk Reduction, launched in the Kingdom of Bahrain on 17 May 2009, offers government leaders and their advisers guidance on the essential actions needed to achieve a safer world in the face of burgeoning natural hazards.

The Report’s recommendations are supported by extensive technical and statistical analysis.

Prepared by the United Nations International Strategy for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNISDR) Secretariat, the Report aims to focus international attention on the challenges and opportunities posed by disaster and to consolidate political and economic commitment to disaster reduction.

Two main events will take place in Bali (Hotel Sanur Beach Bali):

1. Launch of the Global Assessment Report (GAR)
2. Launch of the Tripartite Memorandum of Cooperation (MOC) between ASEAN/UN International Strategy for Disaster Reduction (ISDR)/World Bank (WB) on the subject of Disaster Risk Reduction in the Region.

The launches would be followed by:

1. 18-20 May 2009 : ASEAN-UNISDR-WORLD BANK Joint Forum on Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR)
2. 21-22 May 2009: Visioning Workshop on the Implementation of the ASEAN Agreement on Disaster Management and Emergency Response (AADMER).
